Grant a Gift Autism Foundation is committed to helping children, young adults and their families master autism throughout the COVID-19 crisis. In honor of Autism AwarenessMonth this April, the groundbreaking foundation will introduce a series of interactive online and social media support initiatives to bring awareness and assistance to the autism community.
Tough transitions such as introduction to online learning, changing dynamics at home and disrupted schedules can bring anxiety and discord to those living with autism. Steadfast in its mission, GGAF has adapted its resources to help bring stability to families as well as uplift and inspire others during Autism Awareness Month with the following online initiatives:
- #LightItUpBlue: A nationwide initiative, Light It Up Blue raises awareness and brings the community together by lighting up the community blue April 2-30. Decorate your front door, change your porch lights blue, wear blue and get creative! Take a picture of your décor and tag @grantagift on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
- Facebook Live Sessions with UNLV Medicine Ackerman Center Professionals: Every Friday at noon, professionals from the UNLV Medicine Ackerman Autism Center will be on GGAF’s Facebook Live to discuss a variety of topics and provide tips for families living with autism while dealing with the COVID-19 crisis.
- Client Stories: Autism families are invited to share their stories of how they are handling staying at home during the coronavirus shutdown as a way to stay connected and a reminder that we are all in this together.
- Resource Guide: GGAF has carefully curated a resource guide that provides guidelines and resources for maintaining structure at home, meeting basic needs, coping with stress and anxiety, explaining the current coronavirus crisis and tackling online learning.
While the world may change, GGAF’s mission does not. Before, during and after the COVID-19 crisis the local autism community will continue to face barriers that Grant a Gift Autism Foundation is committed to help them face.
