United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN), with support from Verizon and United Way Worldwide, is bringing back United We Prepare — a community initiative offering free disaster preparedness workshops, resources, and investments in Southern Nevada resiliency.
Two upcoming family-friendly workshops feature Pedro the Penguin teaching Pre-K through 2nd grade students fire safety and emergency preparedness skills. Each student receives a storybook, a complimentary disaster preparedness kit, and a chance to win raffle prizes.
Prepare with Pedro — Upcoming Dates:
- Oct. 23, 10–11 a.m. — The Hills Preschool, 4310 Fuselier Dr. | Register at uwsn.org
- Nov. 16, 2:45–3:45 p.m. — Christ Kids Child Center, 111 N. Torrey Pines Dr. | Register at uwsn.org
Beyond workshops, UWSN has distributed more than 700 disaster preparedness kits through senior expos and community partners, with another 750 kits planned for fall distribution. The initiative also includes $75,000 in grants to local nonprofits developing community resiliency hubs and $40,000 to Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada for home weatherization improvements.
“By offering free workshops and supporting local nonprofits that can serve as resiliency hubs when disaster strikes, we’re making sure families have both the knowledge to act and a trusted place to turn,” said Samuel Rudd, UWSN President and CEO.
