Applications for the program are being accepted through November 14, 2025
United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN) is proud to announce the launch of the Nonprofit VITA Sites Rehabilitation Program, a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing energy efficiency, accessibility, and safety at Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) clinics serving economically distressed communities. Applications for the program are now open through November 14, 2025.
Rehabilitating VITA clinics is a critical step toward modernizing infrastructure and improving the operational efficacy of nonprofit facilities. The Nonprofit VITA Sites Rehabilitation Project will allocate funds to eight eligible nonprofit organizations whose proposed projects align with the goals of improving energy efficiency and accessibility.
The project will implement energy-saving solutions, including LED lighting, HVAC tune-ups, and solar window films, as well as accessibility improvements, including directional signage and navigation enhancements. These upgrades will enable organizations to better serve low- to moderate-income households, reduce operational costs, and expand access to vital services across Congressional District 3 and its surrounding areas.
To be eligible for the Nonprofit VITA Sites Rehabilitation Project, applicants must be nonprofit organizations with valid 501(c)(3) status, possess a Unique Entity ID (UEI), and currently provide Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) services within Southern Nevada. Applications must also ensure that all funded activities comply with HUD Section 3, federal labor standards, and the Build America, Buy America Act.
Applications for the Nonprofit VITA Sites Rehabilitation Project must be submitted online atuwsn.org/nonprofitvita by Friday, November 14, 2025. Applicants can expect to be notified of the outcome during the tentative notification period of January 5–9, 2026.
“VITA services are a lifeline for families who rely on free, high-quality tax assistance,” said Samuel Rudd, President and CEO of United Way of Southern Nevada. “This investment allows us to create safer, more energy-efficient, and accessible environments—so nonprofits can focus on what they do best: serving our communities.”
This project is made possible through a Community Project Funding (CPF) grant, secured in partnership with Congresswoman Susie Lee (D-NV-03). The congressionally directed grant is administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through the Economic Development Initiative (EDI), authorized under the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024 (Public Laws 118-42) and the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024 (Public Laws 118-47).
Through initiatives like MyFreeTaxes, United Way has already helped over 1.3 million taxpayers claim more than $1.9 billion in refunds, saving millions in tax preparation fees. The rehabilitation program builds on this legacy by strengthening the infrastructure that supports these essential services.
This initiative empowers nonprofits to deliver services more effectively, ensuring that every dollar saved through infrastructure improvements is reinvested into the community.
