Workforce Connections (WC), Southern Nevada’s local workforce development board, welcomes Dr. William “Bill” Kibler, Acting President of the College of Southern Nevada, and Lori Calderon Flahive, General Manager of Recruiting for Empire Cat, as new board members.
The WC Local Elected Officials Consortium approved the appointments during its regular meeting on September 10.
Dr. William “Bill” Kibler became the Acting President of the College of Southern Nevada in July 2024 after a distinguished 43-year career in higher education. He is president emeritus of Sul Ross State University in Texas, where he served as president from 2014 to 2020. Dr. Kibler’s leadership posts have included six years as a university president and 37 years in student affairs administration. He served at Mississippi State University, Texas A&M University, and the University of Florida.
Kibler was appointed to a two-year term on the WC Board.
Lori Calderon Flahive serves as General Manager of Recruiting at Empire Cat, a top authorized Caterpillar® dealer for heavy equipment and power generation with more than 4,500 employees throughout Arizona, Nevada, and Southeastern California. Calderon Flahive has decades of experience in talent acquisition in several of Nevada’s key industries, including hospitality, where she helped open several major resorts on the Las Vegas Strip.
Calderon Flahive was appointed to a three-year term on the WC Board.
The WC Board oversees activities under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) of 2014. The Board is comprised of a diverse group of people familiar with the local labor market and the economic forces impacting Southern Nevada. They work to align resources toward effective workforce development to meet local area needs. Board members represent various areas in the community, including businesses, labor organizations, educational institutions, community service organizations, and professional service associations.
