Recently, the Nevada Mining Association (NVMA) and its members visited Spread the Word Nevada (STWN), donating $65,000 to support the “Mining for Books” program in rural Nevada, in addition to beautifying and prepping 500 donated books for distribution to underserved local schools and their students.

The Mining for Books program, made possible in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs in Elko, Ely, Winnemucca and Yerington, allows STWN to distribute literary resources directly to 1,300 students in need.
The average literacy rate in Elko, Ely and Winnemucca is 41% as students living in these areas have insufficient access to learning resources.
STWN is the state’s largest children’s literacy nonprofit and has distributed more than 5.8 million free books to children in need since its inception in 2001.
