Las Vegas Landmarks Support Suicide Prevention Efforts During Awareness Month

Las Vegas landmarks lit up in turquoise and purple this week for National Suicide Prevention Day (September 10), including the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign, the City of Las Vegas Gateway Arches, the High Roller, the Eiffel Tower at Paris Las Vegas, and the Rio Hotel & Casino.

The awareness moment comes at a critical time. Suicide is a leading cause of death among Nevada youth ages 12 to 19, and September has the highest suicide rates among individuals ages 15 to 24, according to the Nevada Department of Suicide Prevention. For every teen who dies by suicide, an estimated 100 to 200 others have attempted.

Hope Means Nevada (HMN), a nonprofit dedicated to eliminating youth suicide in the state, is leading Nevada’s Suicide Prevention Month efforts with a message that suicide is preventable — because with help comes hope.
