A piece of Nevada law enforcement and motorsports history is heading to auction. “The Chaser,” a 1986 Ford Mustang Pro Stock drag racer styled after the Nevada Highway Patrol Mustang Pursuit Vehicle, is being offered through Bring a Trailer, with 100% of proceeds benefiting the Injured Police Officers Fund (IPOF). The online auction ends Wednesday, September 16 at 10:23 p.m.

Built in 1988 and powered by a 604-cubic-inch V8 producing more than 1,100 horsepower, “The Chaser” was a four-time national record holder on the drag strip. But its story goes beyond racing. Driven by NHP Lieutenant Jack Snyder, the car served as the centerpiece of Racers Against Impaired Driving (RAID), a nonprofit program Snyder founded in 1989 that brought the car into Nevada schools to educate ninth graders about the dangers of impaired driving.
“‘The Chaser’ has always stood for something bigger than winning races,” said Snyder. “Knowing it will now help support the officers who keep us safe feels like the right way to send it off.”
