Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions Highlights Yoshi’s Story and Seeks Donations to Cover Costs

When three-year-old Yoshi arrived at a local animal shelter, his future looked grim. He was barely moving, his back legs limp and motionless — likely the result of being hit by a car. But even through the pain, this gentle, trusting cat reached out for help.

Thanks to community support, that help came.

Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions stepped in to transfer Yoshi into their care after the shelter reached out, knowing he needed extensive medical treatment. He was rushed immediately to Tropicana Animal Hospital, where Dr. Lay performed a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) — a complex surgery that removes the damaged ball of the thigh bone to relieve pain and restore mobility.

During surgery, Dr. Lay discovered that Yoshi’s femoral head had already broken off and was floating freely in cartilage — an unusually difficult case. Despite the complications, the surgery was successful, and Yoshi began his recovery surrounded by love and care.

Today, Yoshi is healing in a foster home, regaining strength and showing the same sweet, affectionate nature that captured everyone’s hearts from the beginning.

“Yoshi’s story could have ended at the shelter — but thanks to supporters who make our work possible, it didn’t,” said Vanessa Porter, Executive Director at Homeward Bound. “We were able to say yes to Yoshi and give him a second chance at life.”

The cost of Yoshi’s surgery and recovery totaled nearly $1,600, a significant expense for the organization’s medical fund. “Every time someone donates, they give another cat like Yoshi the chance to heal, to be loved, and to live,” said Porter.
