Kick Off is Friday, February 10 at 10 A.M.
To mark the beginning of five days of events commemorating the Museum’s Fifth Anniversary, The Mob Museum Executive Director and CEO Jonathan Ullman and Senior Director of Content Geoff Schumacher will unveil an exhibit of St.Valentine’s Day Massacre artifacts that will be on permanent display at the Museum. These artifacts join the Museum’s most important artifact, the actual St.Valentine’s Day Massacre Wall, against which seven associates of notorious Chicago mobster Bugs Moran gang were gunned down in 1929. Objects newly on display include:
- Bullets removed from the bodies of the victims.
- Bullet fragments and cartridge cases retrieved from the garage floor.
- Test bullets fired from the Tommy guns which later proved to have been used in the Massacre.
- Original coroner’s documents concerning the victims.
- Reports prepared by Dr. Calvin Goddard, forensic scientist specializing in ballistics, whose pioneering ballistics testing techniques identified the weapons used in the infamous crime.
In addition, Lt. Mike Kline from the Berrien County, Michigan, Sheriff’s Department will be on hand to display two Thompson machine guns used in the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.
Finally, during the event, the Museum will announce its final $1.5 million historic tax credit payment to the City of Las Vegas, which will take place on Wednesday, February 15, during the City Council meeting. This payment will complete the Museum’s total repayment obligation of $6 million.
