Green Our Planet, in collaboration with Compassionate Las Vegas, hosted a gardening day at the Healing Center at St. Jude’s Ranch for Children. This initiative, supported by Compassionate Las Vegas Jameson Fellows and Dr. Gard Jameson, brought together community members alongside youth who are victims of sex trafficking to plant four large garden beds, launching the Center’s garden, just in time for the spring season.
“We are grateful for the commitment of Green Our Planet and Compassionate Las Vegas to creating a space where nature and healing go hand in hand,” said Dr. Christina Vela, CEO of St. Jude’s Ranch for Children. “This garden will provide not only nourishment but also a therapeutic environment for the children who are victims of sex trafficking that live here.”
Compassionate Las Vegas has been a strong advocate for both the Healing Center and Green Our Planet, recognizing the importance of access to green spaces and sustainability education.
“At Compassionate Las Vegas, we believe in taking action to uplift our community,” said Krista Darnold, Compassionate Las Vegas Jameson Fellow. “This garden will serve as a space for growth, healing and connection for the children at the Healing Center.”
As spring begins, this newly planted garden will continue to flourish, providing fresh food, educational opportunities and a place for reflection.
“This project is a testament to the power of collaboration,” said Ciara Byrne, CEO of Green Our Planet. “By working together with Compassionate Las Vegas and St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, we are not only creating gardens but also nurturing communities and providing opportunities for healing and learning.”
The event saw participation from Green Our Planet farmers and team members, James Bristow, Green Our Planet board member, and fellows from Compassionate Las Vegas, all working together to cultivate a space that will provide fresh food, education and healing.
