Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada (RTSNV), a local nonprofit that works to revitalize homes for low-income homeowners, received meaningful funds totaling $2 million from The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
“Housing is as essential as health care, and the grants that HUD awarded to Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada provides an opportunity to ensure people from disadvantaged communities, especially children and older adults, are protected from health and safety hazards in their home. Michelle Medeiros, Deputy Director of HUD’s Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes.
HUD is providing these grants to identify and mitigate health and safety hazards in the homes of low-income families. HUD awarded RTSNV a $1.25 million Health Homes Production (HHP) grant which aims to recognize and address health safety concerns, prioritizing families, older adults and individuals with disabilities. With the support of the HHP grant, RTSNV will conduct healthy homes assessments for 100 homes throughout Southern Nevada, including lead and radon testing, along with various services essential to restoring safe homes and communities.
RTSNV was also awarded $750,000 with the Older Adult Home Modification (OAHM) grant, which will work with an occupational therapist to assess the individual needs of up to 150 homeowners and provide services including critical home repairs and accessibility modifications. These modifications aim to support low income- elderly individuals remaining in their homes throw low-cost, essential home repairs to reduce fall risks and enhance overall safety and accessibility.
“Thank you to HUD for enabling us to remain fully committed to our mission,” said Bob Cleveland, CEO of Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada. “We are honored to continue our work in providing crucial support to low-income homeowners, ensuring that each of our clients can lead healthy and happy lives.”
