Tickets are now on sale for the 25th annual lutefisk dinner hosted by the Vegas Viking Lodge of the Sons of Norway.
The dinner will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024, with seatings at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the Boulder City Elks Lodge, located at 1217 Boulder City Parkway.
On the menu: Lutefisk with melted butter or white sauce, roasted pork, boiled potatoes, peas and carrots, lefse as well as Norwegian cookies. Norway’s aquavit, called the “water of life,” will be available at an open bar. Packages of lefse and cookies also will be sold to take home.
“The dinner is a great social event,” said Karen Holien Buehrer, president of the Vegas Vikings Lodge. “Lutefisk, codfish soaked in and then drained of lye, has a reputation all its own in the Norwegian community. Some of us have even grown to love it,” Holien laughed.
For the first time, anyone wishing to purchase tickets can do so online by visiting the Lodge’s website, www.vegasvikings.org. Price is $30 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. This popular event is usually a sellout, and tickets must be purchased in advance, not at the door.
Proceeds will benefit the Sons of Norway Vegas Viking Lodge, a nonprofit organization formed in 1992 to promote the Norwegian heritage through a variety of special events featuring traditional and contemporary programs. The lodge also operates an annual scholarship program open to high school graduates with a Norwegian ancestry.
