Jewish Nevada and the Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada (JCC) announced today they are hosting a back-to-school drive to help children and families in need of school supplies ahead of the 2023 fall semester.
The nonprofit organizations are looking for local community members and local business leaders to join in to help provide materials needed for the upcoming school year.
The J-Cares Back-to-School Drive will provide backpacks filled with school supplies for those in need. Jewish Nevada and JCC will be collecting the following items: Pens, pencils, erasers, rulers, crayons, glue, binders, loose leaf paper, writing pads, and anything else a student may need.
Collection bins will be located at the following locations through July 28:
- Jewish Nevada – 8861 W. Sahara Ave., Suite 120, Las Vegas
- Congregation Ner Tamid – 55 N. Valle Verde Dr., Henderson
- Temple Sinai – 8001 Hillpointe Rd., Las Vegas
- Temple Beth Sholom – 10100 Havenwood Lane, Las Vegas
- Desert Torah Academy – 1312 Vista Drive, Las Vegas
- Adelson Educational Campus – 9700 Hillpointe Rd., Las Vegas
On August 2, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., volunteers will be passing out the donated school supplies at the Jewish Nevada office. In order to receive school supplies, families must receive a voucher from a participating organization. Donated supplies will benefit children from Jewish Family Service Agency, Aishel Avraham, Desert Torah Academy, Yeshiva Day School, Communities In Schools and more.
“We are really excited to host our first back-to-school drive to help local families and children gear up for the upcoming school year and have the materials that will help them succeed in the classroom,” said Neil Popish, JCC program director. “The Southern Nevada community is truly generous, and we look forward to coming together for this effort.”
Monetary donations for the drive will also be accepted at jewishnevada.givingfuel.com/j-cares-back-to-school. Jewish Nevada is also looking for volunteers to help pass out the donated school supplies. Those interested in volunteering can contact Neil Popish at neil@jewishnevada.org to sign up.
