Cristo Rey St. Viator College Preparatory is proud to announce a transformative $250,000 donation from the Engelstad Foundation, which allows Cristo Rey students to enter college with no financial burden.
This supports the graduating Class of 2025 as they embark on their college journeys. The generous gift is being used to bridge the financial gap between each student’s college cost of attendance and their awarded financial aid packages for freshman year.
Cristo Rey proudly supports students from start to finish to get them off to college. Access to college is the cornerstone and mission for every student. “This support is more than just a financial gift, it’s a vote of confidence in our students’ futures,” said Lisa Burkhead. “Thanks to the Engelstad Foundation, our graduates can focus on their academics, growth, and new opportunities without being burdened by the question of how to pay for their first year of college.”
This contribution reflects a shared commitment to empowering youth and uplifting the next generation of leaders including students like Darla Lepe-Arce who is attending Villanova University and whose scholarship was funded by the donation.

“First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude for this scholarship,” said Lepe-Arce. “This scholarship not only supports my educational goals but also helps my family financially. When applying to colleges, financial aid was one of the most important factors I considered, and it felt overwhelming to think that my education might depend on money. Villanova so far has been my home away from home, it’s only been two weeks but I believe it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Thank you so much again, I am truly grateful for this opportunity.”
