Sunday, Sept. 28 is National Son’s Day and provides a perfect occasion to spotlight Southern Nevada’s Young Men’s Service League (YMSL) chapters.
Year-round, YMSL demonstrates the positive impact mothers and sons can make together in their communities. The non-profit organization pairs high school-aged young men with their mothers in a four-year program of volunteer service, leadership development and personal growth.
Founded in 2012, the Las Vegas chapter currently includes 159 mothers and sons from across Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Summerlin, representing 20 high schools throughout the valley.

Through its 24 ongoing charitable partnerships, including Catholic Charities, DISCOVERY Children’s Museum, Families for Effective Autism Treatment (F.E.A.T.) of Southern Nevada, Just One Project, Miracle League, Ronald McDonald House, Three Square and Spread the Word Nevada, YMSL Las Vegas provides meaningful opportunities for mothers and sons to volunteer side-by-side while addressing real community needs.
“In a world where it’s easy for young people to be disconnected from their communities, YMSL provides a purposeful way for mothers and sons to serve together,” said Chantal Lobo, president, YMSL Las Vegas chapter. “Through service projects, leadership opportunities and quality time spent with one another, our members not only strengthen their bond, but also make a lasting difference in the lives of others.”
Beyond service hours, YMSL members attend monthly meetings to develop leadership skills, foster teamwork and gain exposure to community issues. Each young man holds a leadership position within the organization, rotating responsibilities such as running meetings, leading discussions on life skills and collaborating with peers. Mothers also take active roles, serving on committees and contributing to the chapter’s overall success.
In recognition of National Sons Day, YMSL Las Vegas invites rising high school-aged young men and their mothers to learn more about membership. For more information about YMSL’s Southern Nevada chapters, visit ymsl.org/contact.
