DISCOVERY Children’s Museum is excited to announce its Hispanic Heritage Month Kick-Off Celebration, sponsored by the Southern Nevada Health District.
Join us on Saturday, September 14, and Sunday, September 15, for a weekend full of cultural festivities and engaging activities for the whole family! Explore the rich cultural traditions, music, art, and community of the Hispanic and Latinx community. All activities are included with general admission

Saturday, September 14
- Grito Ceremony
Time: 11:00am
Celebrate Mexican Independence Day with a traditional Grito Ceremony, a powerful and vibrant call to celebrate freedom and Hispanic heritage.
Sunday, September 15
- Mariachi Esperanza Performances
Times: 1:00 pm & 2:00 pm
Enjoy the festive sounds of Mariachi Esperanza, a local Las Vegas mariachi band, bringing the rich musical traditions of Mexico to DISCOVERY Hall. - Danzantes del Puerto – LV Folklorico Dance Performances
Times: 1:30 pm & 2:30 pm
Experience the beauty and energy of traditional Mexican Folklorico dancing performed by the talented youth dancers of Danzantes del Puerto – LV Folklorico. - Community Artist Workshop with Vanessa Maciel
Time: 12:30 pm – 3:30 pm
- Join artist Vanessa Maciel for an interactive workshop on Mexican Cartonería sculptures. Participants will design and paint their own luchador figurines, exploring this unique art form and its cultural significance.

- Toddler Town – Traditional Folklorico-Inspired Crafting
Create your own paper fan, inspired by the intricate and colorful traditional clothing of Mexican Folklorico dancers. This activity is perfect for young children to explore Mexican culture through art. - Young at Art – Portraits Celebrating Farmworkers
Discover the work of artist Narsiso Martinez, who celebrates the essential labor of farmworkers in the U.S. by creating portraits layered atop cardboard produce boxes. Visitors can create their own mixed-media portraits inspired by Martinez’s work. - Science Bench – Cochineal Pigment Exploration
Sponsored by Nevada National Security Site
Learn about the cochineal insect and its use in creating vibrant pigments for art, a tradition that dates back to the Indigenous peoples of Puebla, Tlaxcala, and Oaxaca.

Celebrating more than 34 years as a non-profit, DISCOVERY Children’s Museum is the top interactive Museum in Southern Nevada, welcoming all children and families to explore three complete floors filled with heart-pumping, brain-boosting, curiosity-satisfying fun, adventure, and DISCOVERY. The nonprofit educational institution relocated to Symphony Park in March 2013 and serves as Las Vegas’ only children’s Museum. The three-story Museum encompassing 58,000 square feet is complete with nine exhibition galleries featuring daily programs, demonstrations and activities, and collaborative cultural programming for all occasions.
