HELP of Southern Nevada & Opportunity Village Receive Grant from Nevada Women’s Philanthropy

Nevada Women’s Philanthropy (NWP) members elected to grant $500,000 to HELP of Southern Nevada to completely renovate it’s second floor office space which will allow for significant expansion of services and increased efficiency for up to 43 Adult Program staff at its social services building located at 1640 E. Flamingo Road. A $50,000 NWP Founders gift was awarded to Opportunity Village. 

“This year’s NWP Impact Grant will allow HELP of Southern Nevada staff to grow and continue to provide critically needed services to Southern Nevada’s unhoused population,” NWP President Becky MacDonald said. “NWP is so grateful to our members and our community partners who support our annual grant.”

“We are immensely thankful to receive the 2024 Nevada Women’s Philanthropy Impact grant,” stated Fuilala Riley, CEO of HELP of Southern Nevada. “This funding further empowers the work we do in our Adult Housing Program to end homelessness one individual, one family and one youth at a time. We are eternally thankful to NWP for granting us this opportunity, and we are appreciative for the chance to make a meaningful difference.

Officials from HELP said Clark County’s most recent Homeless Point in Time survey conducted in January of 2023 found that roughly 6,500 individuals in Southern Nevada are chronically homeless. The NWP Impact Grant will allow it to add 13 more case managers to the 30 who are already servicing HELP’s clients. The added staff can help up to 260 more individuals per year who are in need of housing and other social services. HELP received its first NWP Impact Grant in 2016. It used the funds to furnish its new Shannon West Homeless Youth Center located on its Flamingo Road campus.

This year NWP received 27 Impact Grant applications by the November 2023 deadline. A team of about 35 NWP members screened the grants and narrowed it down to two finalists who presented proposals to the members at the annual NWP Grant Hearing who selected the $500,000 Impact Grant recipient by majority vote. The $50,000 NWP Founders gift to Opportunity Village is a nonrestricted gift.
