Dignity Health and the Engelstad R.E.D. Rose Program is participating in events throughout October
This October, Dignity Health and the Engelstad R.E.D. Rose program reaffirms its commitment to Breast Cancer Awareness Month as a critical time for raising awareness of breast cancer, emphasizing the importance of Responsible Early Detection, and providing crucial support to individuals and families impacted by the disease.
Luz Castro, R.E.D. Rose Program Manager, said, “The annual observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a powerful reminder of the importance of early detection, and, when needed, critical medical support for those affected by breast cancer. Breast cancer remains one of the most prevalent and life-threatening cancers worldwide. One in eight women in the U.S. will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime. But with early detection and proper treatment, it is often survivable.”
The R.E.D. Rose Program offers free breast health services, including clinical breast exams, mammograms, ultrasounds, surgical consultations and biopsies, to women and men who lack adequate health care resources or the financial means to obtain them. There are no insurance or residency requirements to be eligible for these services. Financial assistance is also available to cover expenses while in treatment.
Since its inception in 2004, the Engelstad R.E.D. Rose program has provided free services to more than 8,000 southern Nevadans. Over the past two years, the Dignity Health Neighborhood Hospital Wellness Centers have dramatically increased its community outreach efforts to produce a ten-fold increase in call volume, significantly contributing to the improved health of our community.
Throughout the month of October, the R.E.D. Rose Program will be engaging in a range of activities designed to educate, inspire, and support those affected by breast cancer:
