With the assistance of Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance and partnership with the City of North Las Vegas, Smith’s Food & Drug Stores plans to open a $225 million full-line distribution center in North Las Vegas, Nevada. The new center is projected to provide nearly 250 new jobs to Southern Nevada and be completed in Fall 2023.
The new 885,000 square-foot distribution facility is being built in North Las Vegas’ Apex Industrial Park and will disperse more than 16,000 grocery items from frozen, deli, meat, dairy, produce and dry goods. The new facility will allow the grocer to ship products to Smith’s stores throughout Las Vegas, Reno, Southern Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico.
“Our goal is to always have our shelves stocked with the freshest selection of products for the more than 450,000 customers who shop at Smith’s stores in the area,” said Kenny Kimball, President of Smith’s Food & Drug. “The full-line distribution center in North Las Vegas makes it possible to house and distribute fresh products from within the state, which means the products get to our customers even quicker.”
The LVGEA, Southern Nevada’s regional economic development authority, has been working with the Smith’s team for the past year with the application of incentives, as well as the site selection process.
“We are thrilled that Smith’s, a leader in its industry, has chosen North Las Vegas as its expansion location for a new distribution center,” said Bill Arent, Chief Business Development Officer with LVGEA. “Southern Nevada’s business-friendly environment, low cost of doing business and access to 61 million people in one day’s drive prove our area is an ideal place for logistics operations to grow and thrive. Smith’s strategic decision to expand in our market speaks volumes about the strengths of our community and the benefits we offer.”
In addition, the distribution center will operate as a Zero Waste facility diverting a minimum of 90% of waste from the landfill. Smith’s Food & Drug Stores has a commitment to environmental sustainability through their Zero Hunger | Zero Waste initiative by reducing their impact on the environment using natural resources responsibly and minimizing waste in all their operations.
