Recently, The Neighborhood Clinic, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization officially debuted its first location during a ribbon-cutting event. The Neighborhood Clinic provides primary medical care to those without financial means or access to medical care.
The Neighborhood Clinic is an innovative solution to fill an incredible need among the community’s most vulnerable citizens who require medical attention. This population frequently experiences barriers such as finances, transportation, or access to medical insurance that can change minor conditions into life-threatening ones.
Since November 3rd, 2022, The Neighborhood Clinic, located on the Las Vegas Rescue Mission (LVRM) campus near downtown Las Vegas, has provided treatment to patients through more than 400 encounters with LVRM clients. Before the clinic’s creation, LVRM clients had to travel off-site for medical appointments and testing services, posing significant transportation challenges and often delaying medical treatment. Since the clinic’s debut, clients have access to a medical provider by simply walking across campus to the clinic.
“Our mission is to provide quality health care to a population that often goes without treatment because they face too many barriers,” said Dan Briggs, co-founder, and Chief Executive Officer of The Neighborhood Clinic. “Residents of our community, including those unhoused, without insurance or resources to pay for service, deserve quality health care that will improve their lives.”
The clinic is staffed by a full-time family nurse practitioner, supported by additional on-site medical staff. Soon, The Neighborhood Clinic will expand clinical services beyond LVRM clients and provide medical treatment to all in need.
Due to the shortage of providers for the health needs of the underserved community, additional locations of The Neighborhood Clinic are in the works in downtown Las Vegas and Henderson. As many as ten clinics are planned in underserved and at-risk community areas in the coming months. The clinics will expand medical services to the general population, who, because of issues related to access, can be at greater risk for a range of health concerns and diseases, including malnutrition, mental illness, tuberculosis, HIV, hepatitis, and COVID.
“People that don’t have access to medical treatment end up seeking services at hospital emergency rooms which only increases the burden on those systems and taxpayers,” said Trent Hofmockel, co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of The Neighborhood Clinic. “By establishing a baseline opportunity for healthcare to a significantly underserved population, we will help these individuals become healthier while also addressing a significant community need.”
The Neighborhood Clinic is already proactively collaborating with several organizations and entities for future facilities. By creating a more efficient and effective healthcare system for underserved populations in Southern Nevada, The Neighborhood Clinic is providing a template to cities and counties across the country that struggle with these identical and unmet medical needs and challenges.
