At the core of the I Stand With Kids Video Contest: What would you change about your school system? And what would you keep or potentially boost?
Now is the chance for students throughout the Las Vegas Valley to have their voices heard by sharing their opinions and ideas on what they want to see in their schools.
As part of the contest, students are asked to film a short video – no longer than 2 minutes – on their passions, hopes and dreams with prompts divided by grade level asking how they would change their schools, their school system, and how their schools operate.
Submissions will be accepted from Saturday, April 1 through Wednesday, May 3, 2023.
“We launched the I Stand With Kids campaign to advocate for the highest-quality education for every kid in Nevada,” said Jana Wilcox Lavin, CEO of Opportunity 180 and driver of the campaign. “We want to hear from students on what they envision their ideal school systems to look like and how they want them to operate, so their voices are heard as our community looks towards the future of education.”
A committee will review the videos and select first, second and third place winners in the grade ranges of 3rd through 5th, 6th through 8th and 9th through 12th. The winner of each grade range will win a $500 Visa gift card, with 2nd and 3rd place receiving $250 and $100 gift cards, respectively.
For students that need supplies or access to filming equipment, a filming open house will be held on Wednesday, April 19 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at the Opportunity 180 offices located at 732 S 6th St. Suite 200D, Las Vegas, NV 89101. Schools can request individual office hours.
