Las Vegas, NV – The Southern Nevada Workforce Development Area’s Local Elected Officials Consortium (LEOs) voted to appoint Jim Kostecki as interim executive director of Workforce Connections, Southern Nevada’s Local Workforce Development Board (LWDB), effective immediately.
Kostecki joined Workforce Connections in 2012 as finance manager and was promoted in 2016 to Chief Financial Officer where he supervises the finance department and all related financial functions of the agency, which has a budget of more than $20 million annually.
An agenda item to nominate and appoint an interim executive director was added to the May 23, 2017 Local Elected Officials Consortium meeting agenda following the passing of Ardell Galbreth earlier this month who had served as executive director since 2012.
“I want to thank the Local Elected Officials for their confidence in me and will work to keep the agency moving forward,” said Kostecki. “The number one priority for our staff is the library partnership Ardell established to provide a network of Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) services to youth, adults and dislocated workers in local Southern Nevada libraries.”
“We appreciate the great job Jim has done for us fiscally and we have full confidence that he can lead the executive team through this difficult transition,” said Clark County Commissioner Lawrence Weekly, chair of the Local Elected Officials Consortium.
About the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA): On July 22, 2014 President Barak Obama signed into law the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). The new law is designed to improve and streamline access to federally funded employment, education, training and support services. Congress passed the law by a wide bipartisan majority. It is the first legislative reform in 15 years of the public workforce system. http://www.doleta.gov/wioa/
