Green Our Planet’s Giant Student Farmers Market was the largest yet, with 60 schools and over 600 students participating. Students from Clark County School District (CCSD) were a part of the action as they sold produce grown from their schools’ outdoor gardens and hydroponic systems, along with handmade crafts on the Lawn at Downtown Summerlin.
This spring’s Giant Student Farmers Market was made possible by the support from the Las Vegas Super Bowl LVIII Host Committee, the Venetian Resort Las Vegas, United Way of Southern Nevada, Howard Hughes, Bank of Nevada, Lazy Dog, Las Vegas Sands, Clark County, and CCSD.
“It’s special to see the students blossom into farmpreneurs during the market,” said Ciara Byrne, CEO of Green Our Planet. “The market cultivates a learning ground for students to practice how to run their own business, negotiate pricing and take pride in making money on the produce they worked so hard growing in their school gardens and hydroponic units.”
Green Our Planet is a driving force in teaching students various subjects, like STEM, nutrition, conservation, and entrepreneurship, through their programs’ hands-on learning approach. For the 11th year, students were able to showcase what they have learned, while also utilizing their financial literacy and business management skills. Green Our Planet gives students the tools to become true ‘farmpreneurs,’ paving the way for brighter future opportunities.
Green Our Planet’s Giant Student Farmers Market was a resounding success, drawing crowds of enthusiastic attendees and highlighting the vibrant local community in Las Vegas.
