Walkers and runners striving for a world without lung disease will participate in the 9th annual American Lung Association LUNG FORCE Walk, supporting the organization’s lifesaving work in Nevada.
The LUNG FORCE Walk takes place on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Cornerstone Park, 1600 Wigwam Parkway, Henderson, 89074.
Participants are invited to walk, power-walk, or run the route in recognition of those affected by lung issues including lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, and other conditions that make breathing difficult.
Check-in for the LUNG FORCE Walk will begin at 5 p.m., with the short walk/run beginning at 6:30 p.m. After the walk, at approximately 7:30 p.m., family, friends and supporters of those impacted by lung disease are invited to sign a custom memorial ribbon during a tree lighting ceremony honoring loved ones.
While registration for the LUNG FORCE Walk is free at LUNGFORCE.org/lasvegas, we strongly encourage you to consider fundraising. Your efforts will help provide critical funds for lifesaving research and early detection initiatives and support our outreach to vulnerable communities.
Lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer in the United States. Approximately 1 in 17 people will develop lung cancer in their lifetime, many of them never-smokers or former smokers. The five-year survival rate for lung cancer is 25 percent, among the lowest for all types of cancers, which makes early detection efforts critical. Due to advancements in research, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved more than 50 lung cancer treatments since 2016.
Over the past nine years, the LUNG FORCE Walk in Southern Nevada, combined with other LUNG FORCE Walks across the country, have raised a combined $30 million to expand research and help those with the disease live longer lives.
“More than 2,100 people in Nevada will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year,” said Bridget Hultgren, the American Lung Association in Nevada’s Interim Executive Director. “We are here to support those who are diagnosed so they get the treatment they need. By encouraging lung disease screenings and working to increase research funding, we can help those live longer lives in the future.
