ACF Chefs of Las Vegas to host “Viva Careers” Career Fair on Saturday, March 23 from Noon – 3 p.m. at UNLV Hospitality Hall. The inaugural event aims to teach high school and college students about all of the career pathways available in the hospitality industry.
“Most kids think a hospitality career means becoming a chef or server, but there are many different career pathways within the industry,” says Mark Sandoval, ACF Chefs of Las Vegas Chef of the Year and Executive Chef at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, “ACF Chefs of Las Vegas’ goal is to expose the next generation of hospitality workers to the myriad of other careers available, while offering real-world advice and opportunities for mentorship to get them there.”
Some examples of additional careers in hospitality include: Buyer for a Foodservice Company, Sales Representative for a Food Producer, Restaurant Franchise or Bar/Brewery Owner, Sommelier, Kitchen Equipment Design & Sales, and many more.
During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to:
- Gain knowledge of the different career paths within the hospitality industry.
- Network with schools and business executives to receive mentorship / guidance as to what their career path could look like and introductions to internship / job opportunities.
- Vendor booths include, but are not limited to: College of Southern Nevada, Wolfgang Puck, Sysco, Nicholas & Company, MGM Resorts International, Panda Restaurant Group Inc., Chefs for Kids.
- Participate in resume and interview workshops.
- Explore scholarship opportunities to further their education.
Additionally, Nevada Restaurant Association and ACF Chefs Las Vegas will provide two student attendees a $500 scholarship towards their hospitality education when they enroll in an approved school.
