Young Artists Concert Will Showcase Local Emerging Talent
The Henderson Symphony Orchestra (HSO) is excited to announce the 2024 winners of the Young Artists Competition, who will perform with the HSO during its annual Young Artists Concert.
The performance takes place Friday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m. at Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon, 675 E. Dale Ave. in Henderson.
Every year, the HSO promotes a professional concert experience for emerging talent. It is a unique opportunity for young musicians to perform with an orchestra, often for the first time. The event is free to attend.
The Young Artists Competition winners who will perform are:
• Niran Hunter, a sixth grade pianist and Honor Roll student at Thurman White Academy of the
Performing Arts, and a three-time first-prize winner of the Nevada Music Teacher’s Association
Silver State Competition.
• Paxton Garcia, an 8th grader pianist and Is a three-time winner of the Silver State Competition
from Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon.
• Gavin Gonzalez, a 7th grade French horn player, who was selected to be All-State 2024 first chair
French horn in Reno and is currently in a brass quintet, honor winds, and honor band at
Pinecrest Sloan Canyon.
• Kevin Perez, a sophomore cellist at Las Vegas Academy of the Arts, where he has had the
privilege of performing with their Symphony Orchestra.
• Axel Kelley, Axel, a 15-year-old student at The Keys Conservatory at Pinecrest Sloan Canyon,
who has been playing since the fifth grade.
• Elizabeth Alsenz, who started playing flute when she was nine and is now a junior at Las Vegas
Academy of the Arts.
“Unlike most competitions, the HSO offers complete freedom of choice of repertoire, which gives young
artists the chance to be creative and allows teachers to work with students in a more didactic way,” said
Alexandra Arrieche, Music Director of the Henderson Symphony Orchestra. “The Young Artists Concert
is one of the highlights of the HSO’s season and helps develop and showcase amazing local talent.”
