The nursing shortage is upon us only to be intensified by aging Baby Boomers, a growing population, and increasing health care needs. Nursing schools are feeling the challenges to increase enrollment despite experiencing a severe nursing faculty shortage. We are also seeing a retention problem with high turnover rates and nurses permanently leaving the bedside or profession.
The important work of recruiting and retaining nurses has become the focus of many Nevada organizations. To celebrate the nurses and student nurses who are modeling advocacy, leadership, and community, and are increasing access to quality healthcare in Nevada, the Nevada Nurses Foundation will hold its 8th Annual Shining Stars of Nursing in Nevada Dinner & Awards Gala.
The Gala will be held at the Aliante Casino, Hotel, and Resort in North Las Vegas, Nevada. There will be a private VIP reception starting at 5 p.m. with a one-hour hosted cocktail party. The general admission reception begins at 6 p.m., dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., and the program begins at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $100 for general admission, $150 for VIP admission, $75 for retired nurse VIP admission, and $75 undergraduate student general admission. Purchase tickets online at www.nvnursesfoundation.org or call 775-560-1118 for more information.
Proceeds from the Shining Stars of Nursing in Nevada Dinner & Awards Gala benefit the mission of the Nevada Nurses Foundation, which is dedicated to supporting the professional development of nurses and increasing access to quality health care for Nevadans. The Nevada Nurses Foundation has awarded over $225,000 in scholarship and grants and recognized over 3,000 Nevada nurses and student nurses.
“We are excited to celebrate exemplary nurses, student nurses, and partnering organizations at this unique statewide nursing awards gala”, asserts Dr. Sandy Olguin, Nevada Nurses Foundation President, CEO. “We appreciate and value the generosity of everyone who has supported the Foundation. We are grateful to have such wonderful volunteers who share their time, resources, and talent, make charitable contributions, participate in fundraising, and promote the Foundation.”
The event features many prestigious awards. One of the awards, the Shining Star 50 Under 50 Awards, recognizes fifty Nevada nurses under 50 years of age who have demonstrated excellence in their practice, as well as outstanding leadership, community service, advocacy, and engagement in the profession. Submit your nominations for the Distinguished Nurse Leader with Lifetime Achievement award as this category will be closing soon. Nominate and vote for your People’s Choice Dean of Nursing, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, and Director of Nursing!
The Foundation honors recently departed nurses and student nurses, “Forever Stars” who have departed in 2022 and 2023.
