Compassionate Las Vegas, a grassroots movement building compassion and community healing in Las Vegas, together with the City of Las Vegas, is part of the inaugural group of cities to join the new Compassionate USA initiative that will officially launch at the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Columbus, Ohio, on June 2-5, 2023.
Compassionate USA is a people-centered campaign designed around a six-part learning journey that honors our common humanity and affirms the beauty of diversity. Cities across the United States are invited to become partners. There is no cost involved, only the intention to become more compassionate!
44% of teens in the U.S. report feeling persistently sad and hopeless. This is up from 37% in 2019 and the highest level ever recorded by the CDC. There is more despair now than ever, and we believe compassion is the solution.
“Compassionate USA represents an immense opportunity to affirm the capacity of compassion to change the trajectory of culture away from tragedy,” said Dr. Gard Jameson, founder of Compassionate Las Vegas. “When we open the door of compassion, we invite the floodwaters of loving-kindness, which results in the awareness of hope.”
Compassionate Las Vegas follows the global Charter for Compassion principles and is made possible by the Jameson Foundation in partnership with the Moonridge Foundation. In a world marked by growing isolation, loneliness, and divisiveness, compassion is needed more than ever!
Every year since 2013, the Jameson Fellowship has invited a cohort of community leaders to join the movement toward a more compassionate world and learn more about the collective power of teamwork, trust, and collaboration to create solutions for major issues facing Southern Nevada. To date, more than 250 local leaders have completed the Jameson Fellowship.
