Recently, underprivileged students at Robert E. Lake Elementary School received more than 350 pairs of shoes thanks to the SAHARA Hotel Casino Cares Initiative.
The pairs of shoes were donated by SAHARA team members across various departments. While shoes were the main focus of this distribution, other clothing items were collected, such as underwear, socks, hats, scarves and mittens. The scarves and mittens were hand-knitted by some of the team members.
All donated articles of clothing were placed in the school’s clothing closet, which allows students to come in and grab clothes and shoes as needed. Over the weekend, a fire broke out at an apartment complex near the school, in which a few students’ families lived. These families were temporarily displaced from their homes and lost some of their belongings, including children’s clothing. The Robert E. Lake Elementary School clothing closet ensures that in situations like these, no students will go without functional clothes.
“Many of the students at Robert E. Lake desperately need new shoes, but unfortunately do not have the financial means to buy them,” said Paola Zepher, principal of Robert E. Lake Elementary School. “SAHARA Las Vegas team members continue to create significant change in the local community and we are thankful for their ongoing support and donations. SAHARA team members not only make a significant impact to our school community, but they have been very hands-on with their support. Our staff, students and school community are forever grateful for their partnership.”
“SAHARA is comprised of thoughtful, outgoing and caring individuals that truly care about making Las Vegas a better place to live for all,” said Paul Hobson, general manager, SAHARA Las Vegas. “I am so grateful to my team for their generous donation of more than 350 pairs of shoes to local students.”
