Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions (Homeward Bound) has joined NBCUniversal Local’s 2022 Clear The Shelters pet adoption and donation campaign for the month of August. It’s the 8th year of the event, and this year, from August 1 through August 7, the campaign is focused on giving.
All donations up to $20,000 are matched to help organizations like Homeward Bound care for the increasing number of cats coming into shelters and rescues during a tougher year than normal. All donations must go through Homeward Bound’s event pageto count and be eligible for the match.

Vinnie is 10 years old, with one eye, and a gentle yet shy personality. He came to Homeward Bound from a home with many cats and an owner who cared very much, but who found herself in over her head and in need of assistance. She recently ended up in the hospital and was told that it was unlikely she would ever be able to go home. Her family reached out to Homeward Bound for help with care and placement for the cats and has been working with Homeward Bound for weeks to ensure the cats are healthy and to best set them up for success in finding new homes. Several cats are already in the care of Homeward Bound, Vinnie included, and more will be arriving soon.

Jesabelle, at just 8 weeks old, was wandering the streets alone. She had no siblings or a mother in sight. A good Samaritan found her and, unable to provide for her, called Homeward Bound. Jesabelle needs some basic veterinary care, and will soon be spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Then, she will be ready for a home of her own. She is sweet and playful, with a fluffy black and white coat, and represents the thousands of kittens roaming the streets of Las Vegas who need care from people and organizations like Homeward Bound.
“We understand that people have good intentions, and we are here to support both cats and people. The challenge is that there is increased need during a time when many are facing hardships. With rising supply costs, inflation, and nationwide veterinarian shortages, providing medical care for the cats in our community can be tough, both for pet owners and organizations like ours,” said Christi Dineff, Executive Director for Homeward Bound. “We are here to help, but we need YOUR support to do that. We’re in desperate need of donations to help us care for cats like Vinnie and kittens like Jesabelle who don’t have other available options.”
“Thanks to the Clear The Shelters event, we are really focused on bringing in donations this first week of August to support those cats and kittens most in need. With the match, your donations can be doubled—but you need to hurry. There are many groups who need this help, and the match is only through August 7th, and only up to the first $20,000 raised nationwide. Keeping your support local, and giving to Homeward Bound, will go a long way for the homeless cat population in Las Vegas,” Dineff continued.
Tax-deductible donations must be made online through Homeward Bound’s event page to count and be eligible for the match. All contributions will directly benefit cats like Vinnie and kittens like Jesabelle.
