On Thursday, July 21, SAHARA Las Vegas hosted the Meruelo Family Scholarship award presentation inside the Team Member Dining Room and honorary luncheon inside Zeffer’s Café.
As part of the property’s SAHARA Cares initiative, a total of $12,500 was awarded to five deserving dependents of SAHARA Las Vegas team members, including Rogelio Chanteng Disotuar, Travis Ferraro, Jazmin Rivera, Helena Saavedra and Jia Hao Xin.
During the event, all five scholarship winners were presented with jumbo $2,500 checks by chief vision and purpose officer Alexis Meruelo and general manager Paul Hobson.

The Meruelo Family’s focus on education has fueled both companies’ community impact over the years. Since 2018, Grand Sierra Resort and SAHARA Las Vegas have contributed over $1.4 million dollars to the AAA Foundation funding hundreds of scholarships for underprivileged students in Nevada.
“There is no better investment than the one we make in our team members,” said Meruelo. “Established to provide support for the children of SAHARA Las Vegas team members, the Meruelo Family Scholarship will support these students in their college education. It is truly an honor to recognize our incredible team members and we hope these scholarships are just the beginning of our efforts to support education in Las Vegas through our SAHARA Cares initiative.”
“It is important to us as a company to show our SAHARA Las Vegas team members how much they truly mean to us,” said Hobson. “We wouldn’t be in business without their talent and dedication, so we are grateful to demonstrate how much we appreciate them.”
