Nevada Public Radio has received a $50,000 grant from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, supporting new programming to elevate Native American voices.
The grant will allow Nevada Public Radio’s journalists and research team to create a special podcast series. Complementing the station’s regular programming, the podcast will explore the beginnings of Nevada’s history, focusing on the state’s Indigenous people. Additional details and air dates for the podcast series will be announced in the coming weeks.
“This generous grant from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians gives us the opportunity to raise awareness and foster understanding of Nevada’s Native American culture,” said Jerry Nadal, President and CEO of Nevada Public Radio. “The series will include native voices speaking about native issues, highlighting important topics that aren’t often covered in traditional media.”
The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians is an American Indian tribe located near Highland, California. The group has a deep culture of giving through partnerships and charitable organizations, directing philanthropic efforts in the local region as well as Native American causes nationwide. Last year, San Manuel Band of Mission Indians announced philanthropic gifts to several Southern Nevada nonprofits.
