U.S.VETS – Las Vegas is hosting the Veterans Stand Down, in partnership with dozens of community agencies and several sponsors. This event will take place Wednesday, March 26th from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Big League Dreams Sport Park located at 3151 E. Washington Ave.
The Veterans Stand Down will provide services to veterans in need including dental, medical, counseling, housing assistance, and an array of other benefits and resources. There will also be food, showers, haircuts, and non-perishable food and clothing available at the free Stand Down store.
This event is open to all veterans but is targeted to those who are need of employment assistance; or veterans without a place to live or who are at risk of losing their homes.
The Presenting Sponsors of the 2020 Veterans Stand Down; COX Communications, Vanguard Integrity Professionals. Other major sponsors include USAA, Charles Schwab, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, and The Cosmopolitan.
Shalimar Cabrera serves as Chairperson of the Veterans Stand Down and has this to share, “This event is being designed to connect hundreds of veterans to services and long-term outcomes. It’s a true demonstration of what can happen when the community comes together. It also shows veterans that their community has not forgotten their service and their sacrifice. Now that they need us, we want to be here for them, and a lot of impact can start at the Veterans Stand Down.”
Here are the ways the community can help with the Veterans Stand Down:
- Donate non-perishable foods
- Donate Clothes/Shoes
- Donate new socks and underwear
- Volunteer one’s time and talent at the event
- Donate money toward the Stand Down
- Become a sponsor of the event
- Become a service provider at the event (Benefits, resources, etc.)
- Hire a veteran by signing up to participate in the Stand Down Job Fair
