In effort to broaden the fight against food insecurity and social isolation among Southern Nevada’s seniors – and in addition to weekly dinners served at Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) – Three Square has partnered with New Beginnings Ministries to offer wholesome meals to seniors weekdays beginning Monday, Jan. 13.
New Beginnings Ministries – located at 2200 E. Cheyenne Ave., Building C, North Las Vegas, NV, 89030 – will serve free, hot and nutritious meals to those 60 years of age and older between 1 and 3 p.m., Monday-Friday. The first meal will be served on Monday, Jan. 13, following a special grand opening celebration at 1 p.m.
Three Square agency partner, Opportunity Village, will help prepare the healthy meals which will then be served at New Beginnings Ministries five days a week, with the exception of holidays. No identification is required, however, participants will be asked to complete a participant profile upon their first visit.
“Senior hunger and isolation is a very real issue – an estimated 24,000 seniors in Southern Nevada are food insecure and nearly 48 percent of those recently surveyed reported experiencing loneliness,” Lisa Segler, Director of Strategic Initiatives at Three Square. “That’s why partnering with amazing agency partners, like New Beginnings Ministries, is so important to us. We’re able to offer free nutritious meals to those who may be struggling and show them they’re not alone.”
“I am excited about working with Three Square and Opportunity Village to give seniors in our community a place they can come eat and enjoy each other’s company,” said Pastor Smith, New Beginnings Ministries.
VFW will continue to serve weekly dinners on Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m. at the VFW Post located at 4337 N. Las Vegas Blvd., Las Vegas, NV, 89115. For more information about all of Three Square’s Senior Hunger Programs or additional resources, call 702.765.4030 or visit threesquare.org.
