The statistics are scary: every five minutes a woman in the United States is diagnosed with lung cancer.
Help beat lung cancer, the number one cancer killer of women in the United States, one step at a time by registering for the American Lung Association in Nevada’s LUNG FORCE Walk on November 9, 2019, at Henderson Hospital, 1050 W. Galleria Dr., Henderson, NV 89011. The walk begins at 10 a.m.
Individuals and teams can register to participate at LUNGFORCE.org/LasVegas. There is no registration fee for LUNG FORCE walks; however, participants are encouraged to fundraise. November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month.
One of the reasons the disease is so deadly is because only 18 percent of lung cancer cases among women are diagnosed early when the disease is most curable. According to the Lung Association’s 4th annual Lung Health Barometer, lung cancer is not a top-of-mind health concern for 97 percent of women.
Women can arm themselves against lung cancer with information on risk factors and who might be eligible for screening. The Lung Association encourages everyone to learn about lung cancer and talk to their doctor if they are concerned about their risk.
LUNG FORCE Walks are a signature fundraising event for the American Lung Association. Through inspiring music, and a fun, supportive vibe, the nonprofit rallies friends, neighbors and colleagues to raise voices against lung cancer—and for lung health for everyone.
Funds raised will support the American Lung Association’s goals of providing $10 million in lung cancer research; $5 million to increase public health promotion including awareness of early detection tools, and advocating for increased federal funding for lung cancer research to $450 million by 2020. Sponsors for this year’s Southern Nevada walk include presenting sponsor Kindred Healthcare, as well as Desert Radiology and Encompass Health.
