Las Vegas residents of all ages wanting to create a better life for themselves and their families are encouraged to attend “The Great Career and Job Match” on October 5, 2019, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the East Las Vegas Library, located at 2851 E. Bonanza Rd., Las Vegas, 89101.
Data shows as many as one in five people aged 16-24 are jobless in zip code 89101. The overall unemployment rate for 89101 is at twelve and a half percent, three times Nevada’s current rate of 4 percent. (Source: U.S. Census Bureau’s 2013-2017 American Community Survey, represents five year estimates.)
“While our state’s overall unemployment rate is low, some Southern Nevada communities continue to struggle with double-digit unemployment,” said Las Vegas Councilwoman Olivia Diaz. “I’m excited to partner to bring this opportunity to the neighborhood I grew up in. I invite everyone to come out and take advantage of meeting with businesses looking to hire in our community.”
Employers will be on hand to talk face-to-face with attendees about current opportunities.
“These are businesses that are currently hiring. We will also have multiple agencies offering career exploration opportunities for all ages,” said Peter Guzman, Latin Chamber of Commerce executive director. “Our goal is to create a better path for the entire family.”
To help prepare job seekers for the event, staff at Workforce Connections One-Stop Career Centers will hold a free resume review event at the East Las Vegas Library on Thursday, October 3 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., called “The Great Resume Review.”
More than a half dozen resume professionals will provide one-on-one assistance. Walk-ins are welcome.
