Did you hear? It’s Teacher Appreciation Week!
In honor of this special recognition, the nonprofit University WGU Nevada, joined by Lyft and Dunkin’ Donuts Las Vegas are teaming up to give thanks to every teacher in Southern Nevada.
Over two days, the three entities will be giving away nearly 17,000 free donuts and several gift cards to Southern Nevada teachers from every school.
Local dignitaries, volunteers, and mascots from WGU Nevada and Dunkin’ Donuts will be on hand to help pass out dozens of donuts to school representatives who attend on their school’s’ behalf, and volunteer Lyft drivers will deliver to selected schools.
The event kicked off on Wednesday, May 9 , 2018, at Josh Stevens Elementary School where Henderson Mayor Debra March, along with WGU Nevada, Lyft, and Dunkin’ Donuts representatives and mascots surprised teachers with a special donut delivery!

A little history about Teacher Appreciation Week:
- Congress declared March 7, 1980, as National Teacher Day for that year only
- The National Education Association (NEA) and its affiliates continued to observe Teacher Day on the first Tuesday in March
- In 1985, the National PTA established Teacher Appreciation Week in the first full week of May
