Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada (RTSNV), the local affiliate of the leading national nonprofit organization that provides critical home repairs to individuals in need at no cost to them and revitalizes local communities, announced funding is available for low-income veterans with disabilities in need of critical home repairs through its Veterans at Home program.
Veterans at Home provides no-cost, preventive home modifications and repairs to veterans and their families to improve safety and accessibility, increase independence, and facilitate aging-in place.
Veterans and their families – in the City of Henderson, Unincorporated Clark County, Laughlin, Mesquite and Pahrump – who are in need of home accessibility modifications to regain or maintain their independence and are unable to fund significant critical home repairs, are encouraged to contact RTSNV at 702-259-4900 or info@rtsnv.org to learn more and apply.
According to U.S. Census Bureau, nearly 50% of the U.S. veteran population is 65 years and older, many of whom live below the poverty line.
Since 2010, Rebuilding Together affiliates across the country have completed more than 11,200 rebuild projects for veteran homeowners and their families, providing direct assistance to improve safety and accessibility, increase independence and facilitate aging in place.
The repairs are provided at no cost to those in need who are often faced with diminishing resources. Over time, deferred home maintenance can cause significant potential health hazards, like risk of injury due to falling, and lead to crumbling foundations, sagging roofs and windows and doors that can’t be secured.
“We’re working to make sure that all low-income homeowners, including veterans, have a safe and healthy place to call home,” said RTSNV Executive Director Bob Cleveland. “Through our work with HUD and the Veterans Housing Rehabilitation and Modification program we are able to address the needs of eligible veterans to live safely and independently in their home.”
Funded in part by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), through grants provided by the Veterans Housing Rehabilitation and Modification pilot (VHRMP) program, RTSNV will repair homes for low-income veterans in the City of Henderson, Unincorporated Clark County, Laughlin, Mesquite and Pahrump.
