The origin of Memorial Day, formerly known as Decoration Day, traces back to 1868. Gen. John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic issued the Memorial Day Act that called for using flowers to decorate the graves of soldiers who lost their lives during the American Civil War. Eventually, Decoration Day became known as Memorial Day and was designated as a national holiday to commemorate all military personnel who died in service to the United States.
Fast-forwarding to the present, the Help R Heroes team believes heartfelt participation in Memorial Day activities can ensure the history and significance of honoring and remembering fallen service men and women isn’t forgotten.
