Thanks to a generous sponsorship from Sol-Up, the Henderson Equality Center is now equipped with a new state-of-the-art 13.65 kWh rooftop solar system, costing the center only $1 per month.
The solar powered system will deliver clean and sustainable energy during the day to power the center’s 5,000-square-foot facility, dramatically reducing its cooling and lighting costs. With these anticipated savings, the nonprofit organization stands to save thousands annually and reduce its carbon footprint, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability. The rooftop system is fully installed and awaiting approval to start generating power, which should come at the beginning of the year.
“We are thrilled to support the Henderson Equality Center and their invaluable work for the community,” said Sol-Up’s Chief Operating Officer, Stephen Hamile. “Community-centered organizations that prioritize sustainability are making a critical impact, and we are proud to play a role in their journey toward a greener future.”
The newly installed system is comprised of Tier One premium solar panels, SolarEdge inverters, and IronRidge racking, all of which enable a large portion of the Henderson Equality Center’s energy needs to be met by sunlight. During cooler months when energy demands are lower, the center’s unused solar energy will be fed back into the grid through Nevada’s Net Metering Program. This program allows the center to receive credits for the excess energy generated, further reducing utility expenses.
In addition to benefiting from green energy, these cost savings enable the Henderson Equality Center to focus more resources on the essential services it provides to the LGBTQ+ community. Programs supported by the center include a food pantry, wellness clinic, youth services, and support groups, along with special events held throughout the year.
