Workforce Connections, Southern Nevada’s local workforce development board, welcomes Clark County School District (CCSD) Interim Superintendent Dr. Brenda Larsen-Mitchell as a new board member.
Larsen-Mitchell was appointed to a two-year term on the Workforce Connections (WC) Board. Her appointment was approved by the WC Local Elected Officials Consortium during its regular meeting on June 11.
As interim superintendent for the nation’s fifth-largest school district, and Nevada’s largest public sector employer, Larsen-Mitchell serves approximately 290,000 students and 42,000 employees.
Larsen-Mitchell is a 30-year veteran of CCSD and has held multiple positions since starting with the district in 1994, including special education teacher, dean of students, assistant principal, principal, executive director in curriculum, school associate superintendent, and deputy superintendent.
The WC Board oversees activities under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) of 2014. The Board is comprised of a diverse group of people familiar with the local labor market and the economic forces impacting Southern Nevada. They work to align resources toward effective workforce development to meet local area needs. Board members represent various areas in the community, including business, labor organizations, educational institutions, community service organizations, and professional service associations.
