DISCOVERY Children’s Museum welcomes three additions to its Board of Trustees. New members include Amy Badain, Community Leader, Walter Flores-Aguirre, Financial Services Professional Agent / New York Life Insurance Company, Jeff Mochal, Sr. Vice President, Global Corporate Communication / MGM Resorts.
Amy Badain, is a compassionate leader deeply rooted in the Las Vegas community. Serving as the local co-director of Once Upon a Room at Sunrise Hospital, she has dedicated her efforts to bringing comfort and joy to families during challenging times. Through Once Upon a Room, she transforms hospital rooms into vibrant and welcoming spaces, providing solace and hope to patients and their loved ones. In addition to her non-profit work, Amy is a “neat nerd” freelance professional organizer, specializing in creating functional and harmonious spaces for individuals, families, and children. With her keen eye for detail and organizational expertise, she helps clients achieve peace and order in their homes, fostering environments conducive to growth and well-being. Amy has a long-standing commitment to youth development and community engagement, having served as a Girl Scout leader for over a decade and as the Chairman of a Bay Area Education Foundation. Through these roles, she has empowered countless young people to reach their full potential and advocated for quality education and opportunities for all. Residing in Southern Highlands, Amy finds joy in exploring local Nevada hiking trails with her husband and two dogs, playing tennis, and catching the latest broadway show at The Smith Center. As a proud parent of three young adult children, Amy understands the importance of nurturing and supporting the unique needs of future generations. She is committed to making a difference and creating meaningful connections in Nevada.
Walter Flores-Aguirre Walter, moved here 15 years ago from El Salvador. He is the only one from his family in the US. He worked for ten years in concierge services with MGM. He started with NY Life and also has his own finance consulting business. It has helped empower teens with career skills. He started volunteering at events for LC. Peter invited him to join the board. Has also joined the CSN Business School board. His wife of one year (no kids, he said, “yet”) works at IGT in recruiting/talent management and is also a math tutor, which is her passion. He was enthusiastic about joining DEI. He is also being asked to be a part of a DEI effort at CSN.
Jeff Mochal is currently Senior Vice President of Global Corporate Communication at MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM), an S&P 500® global entertainment company featuring iconic hotels and casinos, meeting and conference spaces, live and theatrical entertainment experiences and an array of restaurant, nightlife and retail offerings across the globe. MGM Resorts’ portfolio includes some of the most recognizable resort brands in the industry, such as Bellagio, MGM Grand, ARIA, Mandalay Bay, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Beau Rivage, and Borgata. As head of Corporate Communication, Mochal leads the company’s proactive, strategic positioning of MGM Resorts in the marketplace, as well as the company’s issues management strategy, crisis and litigation communications, internal communications, corporate social responsibility communications, media relations, global development media strategy, and corporate regional communications. He also partners with Government Affairs on public affairs strategies as well as Investor Relations on investor communications. Mochal joined MGM Resorts from LPL Financial, where, as Senior Vice President for Marketing and Communication, he led the company’s public and media relations strategy, employee and advisor communication, corporate social responsibility, research marketing, and crisis and issues management. Prior to LPL Financial, Mochal held senior communications positions at McDonald’s, ConAgra Foods and Hardee’s. At McDonald’s, he helped create and lead U.S. and global public relations strategies for the Olympics, FIFA World Cup, Ronald McDonald, Happy Meals, and the “I’m Lovin’ It!” campaign. Mochal holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Northern Iowa and a M.B.A. from the University of Notre Dame. He lives in Las Vegas with his wife, Erika, and his two kids, Emmy and Sam.
The new DISCOVERY Children Museum’s Board of Trustees members will join a group of highly respected community members. Officers on the board include Chair Boyd Nelson (Cordia), Vice Chair Rebecca Miltenberger (Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck), Treasurer Justin Hartmann (Northern Trust), and Secretary Suken Shah (Envision Marketing). Members-at-large include Shameeda Abdul Mumin (Scholastics Book Fairs), Kami Dempsey-Goudie (Accretive Consulting), Jhone Ebert (Nevada Department of Education), Allon Englman (Aristocrat Gaming), Megan Farnsworth (Wells Fargo), David Gravatt (Epic Creative Solutions), Jason Gregorec (Caesars Entertainment), Kevin Holyfield (MGM Resorts International), Melissa D. Kaiser (DISCOVERY Children’s Museum, Ex Officio), Todd Lefkowitz (P3 Health Partners), Ashley Levin (Community Leader), Stacie Truesdell Michaels (Fontainebleau), Troy Moser (Moser Architecture Studio), Ronn Nicolli Jr. (Resorts World), and and Amy Timperley (Southwest Gas).
