In partnership with each other and every community in Nevada, Vegas PBS and The Nevada Independent are continuing their new media initiative focused on civic engagement and inclusive community conversations, the Nevada Democracy Project. The partnership aspires to close a widening gap in Nevadans’ understanding of and engagement in local and state government.
As part of the Nevada Democracy Project, Vegas PBS and The Nevada Independent have teamed up for regular community listening sessions and from those conversations will seek to understand community needs and provide in-depth news coverage on the channels of both organizations. The previous two Community Listening Sessions, held at the West Charleston Library in November 2023 and the CSN Charleston Campus in February 2024, generated thought-provoking and spirited conversations that touched on issues of racism and its effects on urban development, law enforcement, public schooling, civics education and more.
The town hall environment is an engaging atmosphere that empowers all citizens to make themselves heard.
