Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada (GSSNV) has kicked off the 2021 Girl Scout Cookie season during a time when many Girl Scouts are selling in creative, socially distant, and contact-free ways to keep themselves and their customers safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a first-of-its-kind partnership, the iconic Girl Scout cookies will be sold at all 66 Green Valley Grocery locations across Southern Nevada Feb. 11 – Feb. 28.
Southern Nevadans can purchase their favorite cookies at all Green Valley Grocery locations. Staying consistent with pricing from 2020, Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Do-si-dos, and Savannah Smiles can be purchased for $5 a box. The two specialty flavors Girl Scout S’mores and Toffee-tastics for $6 a box. 100% of the proceeds from each sale will benefit local Girl Scout troops while providing an innovative way to safely run the Girl Scout cookie program.
Through the Girl Scout Cookie Program, girls not only discover their inner leadership potential but also use their earnings to power girl-led experiences for themselves and their troop. In lieu of in-person booths, local troops will sign up for contactless “shifts” earning proceeds from the cookies sold during that period.
Girl Scout troops will learn about goal setting, money management, and customer service and complete steps towards earning the Cookie Entrepreneur Family Pin.
“Our partnership with Green Valley Grocery will allow us to safely navigate the cookie program while driving consumers to a family and locally owned business,” said Kimberly Trueba, CEO of Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada. “Thanks to the innovative thinking of the Crawford family, thousands of Girl Scouts will be able to virtually participate in the 2021 Girl Scout cookie program while learning 21st century entrepreneurial skills.”
The sale of cookies as a means to finance troop activities began in 1917, five years after Juliette Gordon Low started Girl Scouts in the United States. All proceeds raised during cookie season stays in Southern Nevada and helps Girl Scouts attend camp, fund trips, and complete service projects. The ultimate goal of cookie season is to help fund troop activities and to teach Girl Scouts about the importance of financial literacy.
