Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada (GSSNV) announces the appointment of Cindy Ellis to its Board of Directors. In addition to serving on the board of directors, Ellis continues to serve on the GSSNV Board Development Committee.
Cindy Ellis was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. She graduated from Valley High School and continued her education in Los Angeles at the University of Southern California, where she earned degrees in Public Relations/Journalism and Psychology.
Upon graduation from USC, Cindy returned to the Las Vegas area and began a career in hotel sales and marketing. She eventually became an investment advisor and money manager for Prudential Securities (currently Wells Fargo Advisors), working as a Vice President of Investments until she retired in 1993 to devote time to her family and philanthropic pursuits.
Cindy is involved in numerous local organizations. She is currently on the boards of the Candlelighters Foundation, Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada, Nevada Women’s Philanthropy and The Smith Center. She is the Co-Chair of the Moonridge Foundation’s Greater Good Council and is a member of Bishop Gorman High School’s Assistance Corporation, which oversees the investments of the school’s donations and endowments. Cindy also sits on the Advisory Committee of Mayor Carolyn Goodman’s Fund for Las Vegas LIFE.
Cindy and her husband Gary have been married for 30 years. They own several small businesses in Southern Nevada, including Ellis Island Hotel and Casino, Casino Valle Verde, the Village Pub taverns, and the Mt. Charleston Lodge. Their three daughters, Christina, Anamarie, and Michaela, each returned to Las Vegas once graduating college and now work in the family business.
“We are pleased to welcome Cindy to our Board of Directors and the Board Development Committee. As a highly respected business leader and community philanthropist, Cindy brings a wealth of experience that will guide our council into 2021 and beyond,” said Kimberly Trueba, GSSNV CEO.
