Hundreds of volunteers with Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada (RTSNV) will revitalize 17 homes in Henderson’s Pittman neighborhood on Make a Difference Day, Oct. 26. The national observance mobilizes thousands of volunteers every year on the last Saturday in October to enact positive change in their local communities.
RTSNV is taking action by leading 13 volunteer teams that will provide home beautification and maintenance work – including exterior painting, property cleanup and debris removal – to improve the homes and lives of low-income homeowners in the valley.
“In just one year, with the help of more than 1,200 volunteers, we were able to repair 149 homes,” said Bob Cleveland, RTSNV Executive Director. “Of those homes, 92 percent had either a senior or an individual with a disability in it. Throughout the year, but especially on Make a Difference Day, we are honored to help these homeowners so they are able to remain in their homes and safely age in place.”
This year, RTSNV volunteer teams and sponsors working on the homes include: MMC Contractors West, Inc.; Wells Fargo; NV Energy; Southwest Gas; The PENTA Building Group; The Raymond Group, Inc.; Henderson Fire Department; Capital One; MGM Resorts International; members of the United States Air Force; Construction Leadership Council; Slater Hanifan Group; and Henderson Police Department.
Celebrating 25 years of revitalizing communities, RTSNV provides repairs at no cost to homeowners who, often faced with diminishing resources, must choose food and medicine over critical home repairs. Improvements made to homes year-round include ADA modifications and repairing and replacing roofing, HVAC units, plumbing and water heaters.
