The heat is rising around the Las Vegas Valley, making the pavement and roads dangerous to both humans and animals. Understanding this unique need, Las Vegas Rescue Mission (LVRM), a nonprofit that provides aid to the homeless and hurting members of the southern Nevada community, is teaming up with Urban Underdogs Corp., a non-profit organization created to help animals in underserved communities in the Las Vegas Valley, to hold a socks and dog paw booties drive for homeless residents and their pets. The drive will run from May 27 until June 14.
“We are always in need of new, clean socks for the guests of the shelter,” said Heather Williams, director of development for the Las Vegas Rescue Mission. “Our partner organization, Urban Underdogs Corp., came up with the brilliant idea to supply homeless pets with booties to protect their feet from the hot pavement during the summer months. Knowing that many homeless residents are also pet parents, we thought we can help alleviate two needs at the same time.”
For homeless residents, the public can donate new pairs of socks for men, women and children and/or dog paw booties at the following locations during regular hours of operation:
- Las Vegas Rescue Mission, 480 W Bonanza Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89106
- The Ferraro Group, 9205 W. Russell Rd, Ste 340, Las Vegas, NV 89148
- Allstate Insurance, 1945 Village Center Cir. #150, Las Vegas, NV 89134
